OTT, C. E., L. G. NAVAR, AND A. C. GUYTON. Pressures in static and dynamic states from capsules implanted in the kidney. Am. J. Physiol. 22 l(2) : 394-400. 197 1 .-Renal interstitial fluid pressure was measured in 35 unanesthetized dogs from perforated capsules implanted in the kidney. Pressure measurements were made from a small catheter run from the interior of the capsule to the exterior of the animal. Measurements were made approximately every 3 days for a period of up to 80 days. The average pressure obtained in over 150 measurements was 6.0 & 0.52 mm Hg (SEM). These results indicate that the renal interstitial fluid pressure is lower than previously suggested by other methods. Acute experiments were performed in 24 animals in which a) renal arterial pressure was altered, b) renal venous pressure was increased, c) ureteral pressure was increased, or d) 1.0 M mannitol was infused. The renal interstitial fluid pressure changed in response to all of the above stimuli. The effects on the renal interstitial fluid pressure caused by ureteral pressure or venous pressure changes were over 10 times as great as those caused by a similar change in arterial pressure. The possibility is discussed that changes in renal arterial pressure, renal venous pressure, and ureteral pressure, as well as infusion of osmotic diuretics, can affect the overall balance of forces across the tubular wall in part through their effects on renal interstitial fluid pressure.

An Exact Elastodynamic Solution for Func-tionally Graded Thick-Walled Cylinders Subjected to Dynamic Pressures

In the present paper, an exact solution for transient response of an infinitely long functionally graded thick-walled cylinder subjected to dynamic pressures at the boundary surfaces is presented for arbitrary initial conditions. The cylinder is assumed to have a plane-strain condition and the dynamic pressures are assumed to be imposed uniformly and axis...

The effect of internal attentional focus instructions and various distances of external attention on the static and dynamic balance of the chemical veterans with movement impairment

Background and Aim: Research has shown that the type of attentional instructions plays a vital role in performance and learning of various skills, including balance skills and postural control. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of internal and external (close & far) attentional focus on the static and dynamic balance of chemical veterans with movement impairment. Me...

Preload Effect on Nonlinear Dynamic Behavior of Aerodynamic Two-Lobe Journal Bearings

This paper presents the effect of preload on nonlinear dynamic behavior of a rigid rotor supported by two-lobe aerodynamic noncircular journal bearing. A finite element method is employed to solve the Reynolds equation in static and dynamical states and the dynamical equations are solved using Runge-Kutta method. To analyze the behavior of the rotor center in the horizontal and vertical directi...

Solving a Stochastic Cellular Manufacturing Model by Using Genetic Algorithms

This paper presents a mathematical model for designing cellular manufacturing systems (CMSs) solved by genetic algorithms. This model assumes a dynamic production, a stochastic demand, routing flexibility, and machine flexibility. CMS is an application of group technology (GT) for clustering parts and machines by means of their operational and / or apparent form similarity in different aspects ...

3D and 4D Seismic Data Integration in Static and Dynamic Reservoir Modeling: A Review

Reservoir modeling is the process of generating numerical representations of reservoir conditions and properties on the basis of geological, geophysical, and engineering data measured on the Earth’s surface or in depth at a limited number of borehole locations. Therefore, reservoir modeling requires an incorporation of the data from a variety of sources, along with an integration of knowledge a...
